Damn Webb, don't hurt 'em (LOL). But seriously though, I started seeing the writing on the wall at JJP in the beginning of the summer. In spite of giving the side eye to the moderators over their almost overnight 180 turn against PBO (which now makes perfect sense), I decided to stick it out because by and large I really enjoyed the community of posters.

My breaking point came in late August. The atmopshere there had become really toxic...I don't have to get into details, y'all were there. Alexander2 called out the mods for letting the place become a free for all a la Daily Kos, and there were a few of us who posted our concerns as well. So what happens next? Rikyrah lets loose on a front-page diatribe saying in so many words that if JJP has to be compared to Daily Kos then so be it, that Obama supporters need to stop drinking the kool aid and wake up. I haven't posted there since.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I want any blog to be pro-Obama, all the time...if he does wrong we gots to speak up. But the constant bashing at JJP that was based on nothing more than innuendo and spin got to be more than I was willing to put up with. I harbor no ill will toward the crew over there, I wish them the best; but it's disappointing that they let the blog sink into the muck of shouting and petulance. They could have been so much better than that. Hope the 30 pieces of silver was worth it.
  • Shanti2 · 1 month ago
LOL! MsKitty. Scorpios DO NOT play! You're absoulutely right about JJP becoming toxic in August; it was during the health care debates. I kept asking questions of the moderator- (This means you, Rikyrah) about the content of the threads, and they would not respond.

If you're going to throw up a thread for discussion and debate, and not answer the bloggers questions or acknowledge their comments, what's the purpose? Let's just say the moderator was VERY selective in choosing the recipients of her responses.

I'm not opposed to acknowledging PBO's shortcomings when warranted, but a 24/7 hatefest is outrageous!

It's not serving the the blogging community.

Damn! Just Damn! I knew something was foul in the water over there. It's sad when one has to preface "support" for the President with constant disclaimers. I support him. Period. I'm in this for the long haul. I don't exepect perfection, but I know that we will all demand the best from him with love and respect.

This turn of events is disappointing, but not unexpected. Like Rev. Al always says "just cuz you my skinfolk, don't make you my kinfiolk."

Webb, I believe you are onto something.

I read the website Planet POV about a week ago and I noticed that all of the commenters were people who were former and current HuffPo commenters. They are tired of all of the Drudge like headlines over there. I read several other blogs where commenters have said the same thing about FDL and HuffPo. We are definitely not the only disapointed by the publications. There are plenty more, but they don't have an outlet to speak about it.
  • Sepia · 1 month ago
PBomb, Planet POV has been VERY eye opening in regards to HuffPo.
  • Miranda · 1 month ago
I noticed that too about Planet POV. This is so telling.

Hey, Pbomb. I read that weeks ago. POV's smart peeps. It is apparent that money talks. If these folks aren't doing it for the money, than what perverse pleasure are they deriving from trashing the POTUS?
  • PBomb · 1 month ago
I know, I am behind because I have been out of the loop. It's interesting how two republicans won for governor and it's an affront to the Obama Administration. But people failed to mention that the seat in NY-23 went to a democrat, even though Republicans held that position for almost 70 years.

Last time I checked, the gubernatorial position has nothing to do with passing laws in Congress. Bob "I am old as dirt" Sheiffer even said that the two republicans who won for governor have nothing to do with Obama. There were even exit polls, that had showed voters stating that their voting choices for governor had nothing to do with Obama, in fact they gave Obama high marks. Even David Letterman made fun of the "Republicans winning in the governor's races are an affront to Obama" meme on Tuesday night. Because it's so damn nonsensical.

But you have people like David "I am a loser and I am going write a bunch of shit that defies logic" Zirin talking out of both sides of their mouth. He will be eating crow like the rest. I can wait.
  • Sepia · 1 month ago
Thank you! In fact, the Dems gain TWO votes in Congress and those two candidates ran on a health care reform platform, so that's two more votes for HCR! That's great news, but reporters either ignore that fact or, like Andrea Mitchell, downplay it as if those two wins are nothing.
  • Shanti2 · 1 month ago
Rethugs held that house seat for 100 years. Not since Ulysses s. Grant has a Dem been elected to that seat.

As far as Deeds loosing, well, he's just a looser. He did nothing to reach out to his constituency and thought PBO would fly in and save the day for his white pasty ass.

Corzine tried to buy his way back into governorship, but folks weren't having it! They said fuck you Corzine, wallstreet, Goldman Sacs, etc. fuck all of y'all.

Corzine thought his white ass was going to ride the cape tail of Superman Obama, but nope folks had their reasons for not voting for these lazy ass muthafuckas!

    Fuck Dave Z!

    PBomb,

I believe Republicans held that seat in NY-23 for over a 100 years. That was the story but the MSM was determined to make it about PBO.
  • SouthernGirl2 · 1 month ago
I saw that! IIRC, a lot of those posters were banned from Huffington Post for speaking out about what Arianna was doing. They re-grouped and started their own blog.
  • Sepia · 1 month ago
According to some of the POV commentors, there are certain words that are banned from Huffin&Puffin. I was like, WTF??
  • Miranda · 1 month ago
It is abundantly clear that HP is determined to purge the commenting of the sane, reasoned progressives and fill it with the same type of rhetoric you would find at Free Republic or foxnation. They want more divisive combative type comments that bash the Obama administration, and quite frankly, I believe they want more comments that bash the Obama family personally. Its disgusting.
  • SouthernGirl2 · 1 month ago
    Morning Sepia,

I wondered why some of my comments at HP were pending for approval and there wasn't anything offensive in the post.

It wasn't about being offensive....it was certain words! It happened so many times, it is impossible to count them.

Happy to see I'm not the only one giving the side eye to Cheryl all hugged up with Arianna. Jane Hamsher = EPIC FAIL. Can't stand that *&^%#. But more people are beginning to "see" her and the rest of the Obama haters she hires. They just can't handle the idea that a Black man ain't asking how high when they say jump. Like y'all noted before, President Obama IS NOT YOUR BOYFRIEND.

You on point with Jack's qualifying his comments. I don't know why folks feel they have to do that. Yeah, I've had my issue with the President, especially when he kept insisting the Grassley and Enzi were operating in good faith with HRC when clearly they were not.

When I invested as much as I did to get the President elected, I'll be doggoned if I'm gon' call his administration a failure after less than a year. Some folks need to go down and sit somewhere.
  • Shanti2 · 1 month ago
Hey, Lisa. Your third eye is sharp, girl. PBO aint their nigga., but apparently the AA bloggers can call Steele an Uncle Tom and shit, but take payola from these white muthafuckas to distort, mislead, omit information and sell-out black people so the white liberal blogs can get more traffic. I wonder how the AA blog sites could stomach rotating the fucking haterade on the POTUS....

Anyone who is close to Jane Hamsher I cannot take seriously - particularly if they are AA. Why? Jane Hamsher used blackface in an article she wrote on HP at the height of the Joe Lieberman reelection campaign. Yes, that's right, Jane Hamsher, the person cited in this article, the person JJP is all hugged up with, posted an image of Joe Lieberman in blackface back in 2006.

    http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/archives/joe_l...

  • laRapierWit · 1 month ago
Girl, water hot ...passing you the kettle...only got the best...nothing but The Republic of Tea..orange spice... cause that Hamsher termagant requires serious TEAMIND

and just, just inhaling the fragrance of orange spice begins the path from derangement to the contentment zone of TEAMIND

As you sip...you slowly transistion to TEAMIND....where tea awakens us to the truth of our own existence. Through tasting the joys of existence in a new way - Sip by sip rather than gulp by gulp, one will discover calm and contentment, appreciate the perfection, the harmony, the natural serenity and the true aesthetic that exists in every moment and in every natural thing.

Putting up no resistance, one would experience boundless imagination and aspire toward a peaceful and fulfilling lifestyle. Through a simple cup of tea one can realize the supreme true reality of TeaMind.

TeaMind is the mastery of mysteries; no hand can paint it, no voice can describe it. Yet it is easy to grasp; few people know this. Many travel the wrong path, pursuing the false and turning their backs on the true.

Yet attaining TeaMind is easy to accomplish. And now that this has been said, you should not cling to the words but just savor the meaning.

    For it is written:

"The whole problem with Civilization is that we've been trying to squeeze the mind into the brain and it won't fit. The great gift of the leaf is that it relaxes the brain, freeing it to float to its true home in the boundless and the inexhaustible-the sublime state we call TeaMind."

Yesterday, alone, Rikyrah posted three articles from firedoglake. Nothing from Booman, Nate Silver, Al Giordano (those people who allegedly kept her sane during the election). She claims she still reads them but its mighty odd that she posts nothing from them now.

The Daily Kos has more balance than JJP. Last week, there was a big fight at Kos about the influence of Miss Jane on their site. That conversation is not allowed at JJP. Miss Jane reigns supreme over there.

On difference occasions, Webb and I have asked why she posts pictures of the first family while, at the same time, she calls the president "weak, a punk, a sell-out?" Her response was that she knows what her audience wants (also, she enjoys Obama porn).

Does she really know what her audience wants, or does she know what Jane Hamsher wants? Her audience, for the most part, seems to reject Miss Jane's narrative. So, why is Miss Jane being pushed so hard?

  • PBomb · 1 month ago
Honestly, if she had posted information from people like Nate SIlver for instance, people would get a better idea of why the losses on Tuesday had nothing to do with national attitudes towards the President.

    Examples:
    http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/11/what-hap...

And here's an excerpt from one of his latest posts about those election outcomes:

Too often in "mainstream" political analysis, once it is pointed out that independents have swung in one or another direction, the analysis stops. The pundit inserts his own opinion about what caused the independent vote to shift ("Obama's far-reaching proposals and mounting spending", says the Washington Post), without citing any evidence. It's a neat trick, and someone who isn't paying attention is liable to conclude that the pundit has actually said something interesting.

But in New Jersey, there's literally almost no evidence that the Democrats' agenda had anything to do with Jon Corzine's defeat. Voters who cited a national issue were more likely to vote for Corzine, and voters who cited a local one, the Republican Chris Christie.

In Virginia, the evidence is certainly a little stronger, insofar as the national agenda may have affected the lopsided turnout (the electorate which turned out Tuesday had voted for John McCain by 8 points, a near-reversal of the actual results). Even there, however, the quarter of the electorate that cited health care as their main issue went for the Democrat Deeds 51-49. And in NY-23, which was supposed to have been the ultimate smackdown of the Democrats' agenda, the Republican Conservative candidate unexpectedly lost.

But why must we keep with the bull about how this is ultimately an affront towards Obama?

It's bordering on biased, disgusting, and lazy-ass journalism.
  • Sepia · 1 month ago
Honestly, if she had posted information from people like Nate SIlver for instance, people would get a better idea of why the losses on Tuesday had nothing to do with national attitudes towards the President.

Yep, same thing with the health care debate. Alot of information was, IMO, purposely not posted on JJP so as to frame/create the storyline that Obama is throwing progressives under the bus. For example, on July 20th PBO held a conference call with progressive bloggers where he laid out his strategy for healthcare reform. Why wasn't that talked about on JJP? But yet, they were so quick post anything from FDL, John Aravosis...etc., not matter how wrong they were/are. It was disappointing.
  • Miranda · 1 month ago
I honestly started getting a bad feeling about JJP when we had to break down the lies and myths over the black farmers treatment. I thought something was amiss then.
  • Shanti2 · 1 month ago
I remember that issue all too well, Miranda. The article came from AP... SEOD to those mickey ficks! Me you, and Sepia spent some time putting that jigsaw puzzzle together...
  • Miranda · 1 month ago
And I'm sure you recall there was absolutely NO acknowledgement regarding all of the information we posted. There was no update to the blog....no follow-up second blog about it....not a damn word.
  • Sepia · 1 month ago
Oh, but there was another blog post about the Black farmers, but it was just a remix of the initial "Obama is stabbing Black people in the back" post. To me, that came across as, "Fuck you! I don't care about the facts! Imma keep running with this Obama ain't shit meme!".
  • Shanti2 · 1 month ago
Exactly, Miranda. None, Nada, Zilch, ZERO!

If one is blogging to inform, it would seem that one would do the research,
keep abreast of new information and update the thread as it becomes
    available.... That's blogging 101.
  • Sepia · 1 month ago
I almost forgot about that episode. Yes, that definitely should've been a warning. All throughout the campaign, we always gave AP articles the side-eye because of their Republican affiliations. But then JJP used an vauge AP article to deem Obama as betraying Black people?
  • Miranda · 1 month ago
Then there was the time after that, a Bruce Dixon piece was posted.....ya might as well put up a piece by Pat Buchanan since Dixon is his black doopleganger from Bizarro world.
  • Sepia · 1 month ago
You mean the piece about the Chicago school system? Boy, was that article loaded with a bunch of bull. The headline was misleading as all get out. Very questionable.
  • Alexander2 · 1 month ago
I remember that. The headline was that the chicago teachers union was suing the Obama administration. The union was actually suing the Chicago Board of Education. That was a misleading piece of slander and bullshit.
  • Shanti2 · 1 month ago
So it appears we're coming full circle here. For me, the bottom line is there was no objective analysis, neutrality, or civility with the post. Just ranting, screaming, and whinning about the sell-out POTUS!

I'm learning though. If I'm gonna post something as important as health care, I'd better bring some thoughtful analysis....
  • Miranda · 1 month ago
Exactly....and what's so damn offensive is the attitude that WE are too stupid to actually see through that mud. WTH?!?!? We are not of the teabagging birther crowd, I will actually do more research than what's actually presented to me.....as if I can't google up and find the facts that have been omitted or downright twisted in order to fit an agenda. That's what pissed me off about that black farmers piece as well as a piece about the funding for HBCUs...that fits the "Obama hates black folks" meme...and its bullshit. To top it off, when WE, the readers, post facts and link to the data that totally contradict the points of the bullshit articles posted, its never acknowledged...not even a "my bad'...NOTHING.
  • Miranda · 1 month ago
    Yep, that's the one.
  • Shanti2 · 1 month ago
"It's bordering on biased, disgusting, and lazy-ass journalism."

You NAILED, it PBomb. some of these blogs rely on Lackadaisical practices by asking posters to drop links for discussion and gossip, and that's fine. It becomes a smokescreen for bringing the truth out in the actual threads.

    Hello Jill,

Just thinking about your words...."Love IMO doesn't mean loving everything a person does but being honest with each other".

Jill, love means respecting a person even if one has disagreements with them. In that JJP committed Epic Fail. Where is calling or allowing someone from your blog to call our first black President a "wuss", "weak", a "sell-out punk" an expression of love? Jill, that is destructive, it's fighting words meant to destroy. It's not an attack on policy, it's a personal attack on his manhood. As a woman, I am sure you know there are some things one just doesn't do---you doNOT attack a man's manhood. Those attacks can never be taken back and the damage is done. You nor anyone else at JJP came out and denounced it. We took it as JJP being in agreement with it.

You've not addressed the issues at all that we've brought up in this thread. Is your allegiance more with Arianna & Jane Hamsher than the black community? Please tell us. Your blog is directed at a black bourgeoisie perspective on U.S. politics! I don't see it that way any more. Arianna & Jane may have helped JJP to get started but it is bloggers that kept it moving and made it what it is today. IMO, JJP haven't lived up to it promise with the black community. It seems you've lost sight of your original goal and that is serving the black community. Is not JJP to be held accountable for their actions?

Lastly, I would think JJP would be so proud of one of their own top commenters being able to get a seat sitting so close behind the President that one could reach out and touch him. JJP had to be called upon by other commenters to acknowledge it's own top commenter "Spirit". That is major Epic Fail! A seat sitting behind the President is not given to anyone, that would have to be earned. Spirit earned that seat by her loyal enduring hard work, just as she was loyal on JJP. She came to JJP daily fighting for the cause and having nearly 12,000 posts prooves it. It takes commenters to push a blog. JJP owes Spirit an apology.

When Spirit returned from that rally and gave her report, that was the time to acknowledge & congratulate her. Rikyrah,

I want us all to be able to work through these bruised and hurt feelings. They're very real and bottled up resentment is not good for anyone. A lot of people were hurt from actions at JJP. Talking about it helps us all to clear the air so we can heal & move forward.

IIRC, after Baratunde made his appearance on MSNBC after the Ape cartoon explosion, we congratulated him, gave him huge props of a job well done, we were proud of him. We didn't wait 3 days to acknowledge him. After 3 days, the excitement is gone. No one should wait to thank or congratulate someone. You do it at that moment!

Jack & Jill Politics: A black bourgeoisie perspective on U.S. politics
Tubman/Cheryl Contee on BBC Election Night Nov 4, 2008

    Author: Jill Tubman
Hey folks, I’ve been invited to speak to the BBC on election night. They’ve also got the fabulous Jane Hamsher of FireDogLake, Melissa Clouthier and other bloggers planned. It’s an honor, really. . . .

The "fabulous" Jane Hamsher who hated on Candidate Obama during the primary and general elections! Rikyah, I don't know about. Jack, I don't know about. But I do know that Jill is a first-class coon. The fabulous Jane Hamsher, and the fabulous Arianna Huffington.

There is also something about Jill that bothers me. I hate the cozy and too familar street talk in all her posts. It rubs me the same way that Michael Steele does. Stop trying to be so black, Jill. Your ass is a sell-out for the whole world to see.

I was just telling my sistas that Jill and Jack haven't responded, and she said she doubted they would. Jill is too good to drop in on WSY. I beg to differ on the too good part. I challenged both of them last night to come correct with our people... crickets.........

    I am WAITING!

I think rikyrah really believes the bullshit she writes. And I think Jill is cooning all the way to the bank.

I remember when I was in law school. There was a black, upper class woman that talked the same way Jill writes. All the slang and faux black attitude. There was a brother from Xavier in Louisana along with me who knew she wasn't about anything.

I can't believe Jill used the words...The "fabulous" Jane Hamsher? How can someone be considered "fabulous" who posted a picture of Joe Lieberman in blackface? WTF? Does Jill not know this? If Jill feels Jane Hamsher is "fabulous", I don't wanna see anything negative about Hillary/ Bill Clinton and their dog whistle!

Jill: "I realize I’ll be among those representing African-Americans to the rest of the world on an important night, win or lose for our guy. What do you think is most important to communicate about African-Americans and our relationship to Barack Obama’s victory or loss?"

Answer: If we vote for Barack Obama, we will support his efforts to serve America. We will give him the respect, space, and opportunity to do is fucking job.

We'll SUPPORT his efforts in as much as we have the capacity to do so!
  • Alexander2 · 1 month ago
Even then, it was all about Jill. She didn't have to ask people what she should say, it should have been in her DNA to say just what you wrote. Fuck the great honor of being on the BBC with the "fabulous" Jane Hamsher.

Arianna is a snake in the grass! It all about the hits, traffic and making money. Those ugly blaring headlines about the President create traffic for her blog.
    She's no liberal...she's a republican!

PlanetPOV are smart peeps! They're on to her ass.
HP tried to shut them out and silence them for pointing out her bullsh!t. Good for them to re-group and get the story out of what she's all about.

Jill told us and wrote threads about her being a SidleyAustin alum...she has to work at 'keepin it real' cause she is most comfortable with Beckies!! She had to assimilate and this post sounds ..just like what Beckie would say...geee, you guys all look so NEAT!!..in HS.. has now become the professional females sticking together...'fabulous Jane/Arianna'

Jill is use to being on the outs with our community. I get that. I got it from the very first time I read bourgeoise perspective under J&J banner...she is not coming from the hoood...which is good and fine.

We will watch her oscillate in the wind until she finds her own spot. She is now forced into the critiquing of the POTUS because that is what the 'clique' is doing that she earnestly endeavors to be part of.....so Jill hanging with her fellow Becky bloggers is going to consistently talk THEIR talk...so that she can walk THEIR walk.

Her soul no longer belongs to her...it is theirs for the asking....we they dog POTUS she will follow suit. Cause after all the only thing different about her is melanin...she believes...while her 'girls' pimp that melanin for their own capitalistic/entrepreneurial purposes. The funny thing is Cheryl is bought and don't even know it cause she too busy trying to FIT IN!

Wow, Webb..just wow!! We KNEW...even if we could not put our fingers on why. We KNEW...thank goodness we had the foresight and skillz to create WEESEEYOU.

this here commonsensemedia...and earning 'chedda' is one thing...but the hate that was spewed...the diatribes and character assasination we all endured cause JJP was acting like sheeple...that is just completely unforgivable.

It was torture for me...cause I thought I was visiting a site with my interests and who could support POTUS only to find out now they are a trojan horse for a network of FDL/huffpo. . It reminds me of how folks were looking for minority contractors and recruiting 'blackfaces' for minority ownership, so they could get the contract.

hmmmmHUH...weeseethem. Isn't it interesting that DailyKos is not a part of commonsensemedia?

I was in bed when Webb posted this. LOL.

Webb broke it down! I'll just add that JJP seems to be posting a nasty anti-Obama piece from firedoglake every damned day. Oh, let's not forget Rikyrah's foolish post that Miss Jane featured on firedoglake. That, in particular, pissed me off because Miss Jane used it to say, "see, blacks folks agreed that he is a failure too."

JJP rarely presents anything on the front page that goes against Ms. Jane's narrative. In June, I commented that the stuff I was reading on JJP was no different from the stuff at Firedoglake, and I humbly asked for more balance.

    Rikyrah's response was: "So.Be.It."

Why y'all getting me all fired up this early in the morning? My blood pressure is rising as I think about it.
  • laRapierWit · 1 month ago
Alex, I remember you calling out that Rikyrah writeup where she was used as the voice of black folks over at FDL!! You were on point.

That really did speak to collusion, cause I was as pissed as you were..specially since that was not how I felt at all as a black person.

I am sipping on green tea this morning...as I seek enlightenment and a state of mind that says...thank you god for blessing all the folks at weeseeyou with the insight..to MOVE on...so we could HOLD up this Presidency in the blogosphere amongst faux progressives...who I still insist are nothing but PUMA's!

So, Alex, sip a little tea and let that pressure subside as you think about how wonderful WEESEEYOU is and how proactive we were in bringing about change..even when we were still in the dark...we found a way to illuminate and bring to the fore the truth...and now lookee lookee....the chickens done come home to roost for JJP....trojanhorsemofos!!
  • MsKitty · 1 month ago
thank you god for blessing all the folks at weeseeyou with the insight..to MOVE on

How about that? I almost didn't find this place. After staying away from JJP for a month I decided to go back there for a minute to see if folks got back to their senses. It took me 5 seconds to figure out they hadn't but I saw Webb's link to WEE and decided to check it out. It felt like coming home. Sounds hokey but true. I really missed being with posters that even in the most heated of dicussions could air their differences with respect and sometimes humor. That's practically non-existent in most places on the blogosphere. JJP had something really special and unique and they blew it.
  • SouthernGirl2 · 1 month ago

You speak the truth. The damage has been done. It's irreversible!
  • laRapierWit · 1 month ago
So, glad you found us MsKitty!!

Webb was pretty smooth about posting links. : ) I didn't know if folks had actually clicked on it. But it is good to hear that folks who refused to be sheeple did, and found themselves right at home.

Webb, this post has been a long time coming, but I know a change had to come. Saw JJP start to bring things back to the middle after a mass exodus of some of its top posters/commentors; me being one of them.

I love competition, don't you? I'm thoroughly disappointed and pissed with these folks, especially JACK & JILL.

I want to hear or read about how y'all didn't TRY to sell us NEGROS down the river for a few dollars, how y'all didn't try to tarnish and trash the first BLACK POTUS.

Hey - wanted to let you know that Jack, rikyrah and I read this post and all the comments.

What I want to express is how grateful I am for your prior support since I can see some of you are JJP community members. Your participation in the fight to get Barack Obama elected and on other issues means more to me than I can say.

I hear your disappointment and anger. I respect your concerns and took time to think about how best to respond to them.

It's possible that we may choose to agree to disagree. My hope is that we can continue to respect each other as everyday warriors in the struggle and continue to work side-by-side when our interests align.

Jane and Arianna have supported Jack and Jill Politics since the site first launched in 2006. They were there for us probably even before some of you heard about JJP. In the case of Jane, she's become a friend over the years. I may not agree with all of her positions, but I respect her work and her commitment. When she and Pachacutec of FDL asked us to join Common Sense Media, it made sense to us. Why shouldn't African-American blogs benefit from advertisers too -- especially when most of CSM's major advertisers are nonprofit organizations whose aims we tend to support.

The money from CSM and BlogAds helps us to pay for the site's server operations and for travel expenses to conferences. It's been a lifeline since we all have full time jobs and JJP needs resources.

We are eager to work with a black-owned ad network too and have been in negotiations with 2 such networks recently. Once we know more, we'll share that with you.

As for Arianna, again, I don't always agree with her. But I admire what she's done with HuffPo as a female entrepreneur and activist. I think she's a visionary.

I think you know we love ourselves some Barack Obama. It still makes my heart skip a beat to hear his voice on TV sometimes.

That love includes accountability though. We know that the White House is a fishbowl. We aim to help the President stay focused and deliver on his promises of change - especially where black folks are concerned. We happen to know that external pressure sometimes gives the Administration the air cover to push issues forward since it's clearer that they have public support or helps them refine their positioning.

That's how we see our role. Love IMO doesn't mean loving everything a person does but being honest with each other. That's our goal.

I understand if you see things differently and would like to see that support for the Prez expressed differently.

My hope is that we can continue to talk about how best to support the President and his agenda and ensure on JJP that we're representing the diversity of opinion in the African-American community on JJP.

Again, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support in the past and know that we want to hear from you when you are disappointed in us and have questions. That's what this blog thang is all about.

    Peace, Cheryl/Jill

I was accused of something like this awhile ago, and my response NOW, is as it was then.

I DON'T get paid to blog. Everything that I do for blogging, I do so because I WANT to. The time that I spend on blogging is what I VOLUNTEER to do. I've never been to a blogging conference of any kind. I've never been on radio, tv, or in print. I do what I do at JJP and MOA, because it's a labor of love.

I'm not Coates, or Sullivan, or Kos, etc. I don't get a paycheck for this.

Healthcare is personal to me, and I make no bones about it, nor the stance that I've taken.
  • Shanti2 · 1 month ago
So what you are saying is that health care is personal to you? It is personal to me too. I came to JJP and dropped links, engaged in debate, laughed, cried, cheered with that community.

You think you're the only one who takes healthcare personally. We all have our stories to share.

You were the moderator of the threads you posted. I failed to see little, if any objectivity or neutrality in those post. There was one rant after the other about the "sell-out 'POTUS, backed up with other left wing liberal blogger jargon.

You say you don't get paid, that you do what you do as a labor of love. Well, I certainly didn't feel any LOVE coming from those health care post.

Frankly, I think you took it too personally and Jack & Jill weren't there to support you, to help bring some balance to the site. I don't begrudge you the right to speak up for your beliefs.

What I will not participate in is the bashing of this PRESIDENT.
  • laRapierWit · 1 month ago
It was not your stance regarding policy. It was your personal attacks on POTUS that were simply outrageous!

If it had of been just policy...coool...everyone could discuss the pros and cons of the issue.

You took it to another whole level, with post after post, and thread after thread all with one overarching point, that POTUS was a failure, he was a wuss, he didn't know how to lead or do his job.

Naw, it wasn't just healthcare for you...you were all about telling folks they were drinking KoolAid and being Obamabots...just like they could not have a position that supported the POTUS unless they were 'obsessed' or crazied for POTUS.

It wasn't just healthcare, it was about tearing POTUS down.
  • rikyrah · 1 month ago
    it was about healthcare.
  • SouthernGirl2 · 1 month ago
    Rikyrah,

But that's not how to get it done by tearing down the president. What happened to constructive criticism, letter writing, phone calls etc, with persistence? That's how you get it done. Temper tantrums & threats doesn't work.
  • laRapierWit · 1 month ago
Then why were you calling him a punk and a sellout, huh? Why were you accusing folks of drinking KoolAid...if it was just about policy. More importantly, why were you accusing him of not doing his job, when his job is not to legislate to begin with. Why were the voices of reason about the legislative process so willfully disregarded and demeaned?

THAT was not just healthcare...rikyrah....you might have had an issue about healthcare but your approach and attacks went far beyond policy concerns. And it was relentless...repetitive and dispiriting.

Your threads were HATIN on POTUS not just challenging him on a policy issue. You attacked the man, the character, the mind and spirit.

    Not just healthcare.
  • rikyrah · 1 month ago
I've gone through the posts in July and August of this year, and YES, I was skeptical of the WH with regards to the Public Option. I still am. What I didn't see was ME accusing people of drinking ' KOOL-AID'.

    Rikyrah,

I can understand if healthcare is personal but did it have to go to the point of blatant disrespect for our first black president? People had asked you to stop but you didn't. Your front page rants hurt people that had waited so long for this president. Some died without seeing it. Why Rikyrah?
  • rikyrah · 1 month ago
I didn't see it as a blatant disrespect to ask questions as to where the WH was going on healthcare. I had been ' disappointed' in other decisions made by the WH, but let it go, because I was holding out for healthcare. I've seen what this WH can do - when they want to do something and how they go about it - I simply have not seen that in the healthcare debate.
  • Sepia · 1 month ago
IMO, you weren't asking questions about the WH stance, you were throwing false accusations towards them, which, interestingly, came from Hamsher, Greenwald, Aravosis...etc., and then when they were proven to be false, there was no acknowledgement of it.

For example: When you posted that DNC commercial which showed a clip of Obama at a healthcare rally in Maryland. You complained that commercial didn't talk what Obama wanted in HCR, when the truth is that that wasn't supposed to be the intention of that particular commercial. That commercial was supposed to get folks fired up for the big fight that was ahead. But you ignored that. And guess who first complained about that commercial? JANE HAMSHER. What's very interesting is that she voiced the exact same complaints as you did.

The WH has been working on HCR. Back in July, he held a conference call with prgressive bloggers and laid out his strategy for HCR. I don't remember you or any of the other JJP moderators mention that. Why? Several posters presented you with info on the WH's stance on HCR. They practically begged you to post, and you didn't. You accused Obama of not meeting with the Progressive Caucus, but when Barbara Lee came on the Ed Schultz show and said that he did meet with them, you only posted it after I requested it. Now, we all know you watch Ed on the daily, and that you post his clips almost everyday, so IMO it was suspect that you didn't post this particular one. And when you did post it, you didn't admit that you were misinformed.

Examples such as these are the reason why I have become disappointed with JJP.
  • Shanti2 · 1 month ago
I'll give rikyrah credit for at least acknowledging your comments. She would not acknowledge my questions.....
  • Alexander2 · 1 month ago

  • SouthernGirl2 · 1 month ago
    Rikyrah,

Calling the president weak, a wuss, a sell-out punk is attacking his Manhood. Those are fighting words meant to destroy! There are certain things that crosses the line and you crossed it. It's no turning back after that. You hurt a lot of people by doing that because we looked to you. We had confidence in you. This is why I stated that you didn't need to wait for anyone else's opinion. You could have made your decision, put it on the front page and stood back with boldness!

You know without a doubt that Jane Hamsher is a disgruntled hater from the primaries. Please don't dance with the devil!
  • Shanti2 · 1 month ago
Tell it, SG2. I have a black husband. Do you think I want to read about the first black President being a wuss, sell-out punk. Fuck that! I don't want to read about attacks on any black man's manhood. Hasn't slavery done enough to try and destroy us all?
  • Alexander2 · 1 month ago
We got into several times about issues other than healthcare. The stimulus was a joke, according you, and the president was weak because he didn't shove a bigger stimulus down the republicans' throats.

On DADT - the president needed to man-up

On the banking situation - you posted that Geithner is a crook, the president hangs out with Geithner, so draw your own conclusions. That post went directly to the President's character. I was offended.

On the torture photos - the president punked out

On the "alleged" BigPharma deal - the president is a sell out

On almost every issue, you have taken the Firedoglake position. Booman, Nate Silver, Al Giordano are dead to you. During the past week, you posted eight articles from Firedoglake. Next in order were Huffpo and Americablog. Americablog, really?

Finally, I can't recall one instance in which you posted something positive about the President's policies. Lots of pretty pictures about the first family, though.

I used to go to JJP to get away from exactly what you are doing now. Maybe its not money, but with friends like you, who needs enemies?

I was clear on DADT; I believe that I posted my thoughts on that soon after the election.

Banking - I make no bones about it; I believe Geithner is a crook that oversaw the disaster that caused our financial collapse. he's a tax-evading crook, and no, I don't believe he was a good choice for Treasury, and wish he had been taken out because of the tax issues. You can't surround yourself with the folks that were knee deep in what happened to CAUSE the financial crisis, and have only 2 conclusions to take - either you're a dupe, or you're in collusion with them...which one do you choose?

torture - I want Cheney, Yoo, and the entire cabal in orange jumpsuits. NO, I don't believe in ' let's move past', but I swallowed it and went on.

Big Pharma - if there was no ' deal' between the WH and Big Pharma, then why are there folks in Congress attacking such a ' deal' now?

I believe Geithner often pursues the wrong policy but there is no evidence that he is a crook, and by extension, the President. My biggest issue with your type of blogging is that name calling substitutes for serious analysis.
